MINUTES OF THE MARCH BOARD MEETING:
Salmon Arm Nature Bay Society April 11, 2007 Interpretive Centre
PRESENT:

MINUTES:
Mike moved adoption of February minutes as circulated.
Seconded Gary C.
Carried.
TREASURER'S REPORT:
Mike reported a current balance of @10,.851.85,
with
February expenditures exceeding income by $1,429.02. He noted the
sale of the
last two Steven Mennie prints; a letter of thanks will be sent to
Filiatrault and Heron
Framing for marketing these works. He moved adoption, seconded by
Gary Carder. Carried.
REPAIRS FOLLOWING VANDALISM:
The Talius representative outlined
options for
repairing the sliding door, recommending a solid-core replacement
priced at $2280.
If the existing motor can be used, the price would drop $565. Gary
Carder moved,
seconded by Hanne MacKay, that this option be accepted, and that a
motion light
be installed. Carried. Mike reported that our insurance deductible
is $1000, and
itemized the stolen property: 2 TVs, binoculars, spotting scope,
cell phone, and $50
cash (besides the replacement door).
MEMBERSHIP:
Ron expressed regret at the results of mailings to
potential corporate
members, and various followup alternatives were discussed. Ed will
update the list
and report back to next meeting.
GRANTS FOR SUMMER EMPLOYEES:
HRDC application has been sent, and
Katimavik
has been contacted .
WEBCAM:
Scott Neumann outlined the potential for webcam advertising,
and the commitment
of 1/2 of revenue to SABNES. Various strategies for enlisting
corporate advertisers were
discussed, starting with an approach to the Chamber of Commerce and
Downtown
Business Association by Tim Giandomenico. Dave brought attention to
the front page
article and photo in that day's OBSERVER; it was agreed that
immediate action should
follow such publicity. Scott Neumann's domain is salmonarm.com.
WEB SITE:
D'Arcy McLeod showed the results of his work on the SABNES
website, and
called for updates of content. There was general enthusiam about
the results, and
D'Arcy's commitment to the task.
WORK PARTIES:
Ron expressed thanks to those who assisted in the
structural repairs, and
those who cleaned and rearranged the interior of the interpretive
centre so attractively.
SEMI-ANNUAL MEETING:
June 8th, at the Art Gallery. Suggestions
welcomed for guest
speaker.
GATE:
Ron displayed a sketch for the gate replacement.
COMPUTER PROBLEM:
Scott Neumann offered to replace our existing
computer with a
more recent reconditioned model.
OTHER BUSINESS:
In response to complaints about the lack of toilet
facilities on the trail,
the possibility of a port-a-potty was discussed; in view of current
vandalism, it was agreed
that installing such a tippy structure was an invitation to further
trouble.
On Saturday, March 14th, the Young Naturalists will be at the
Centre to build bird houses.
On May 9, Rotary Conference tours are being arranged.
